We are delighted to welcome the new year with the Spring/Summer 2019 edition of The Travel Money Journal. This edition’s feature article focuses on how different types of machine learning, particularly ‘reinforcement learning’, can benefit price optimization within the travel money industry and improve a travel money operator’s performance.
We then look at the expansion projects that are taking place in UK airports with the aim to attract inward investment by targeting China as the new passenger hub for long-haul flight from the UK. It is concluded that those retailers who can meet demand in the turbulent mid-Brexit market will receive high returns.
Finally, we examine the different consumer payment behavior within the euro zone revealing that despite developments in electronic payment methods and the rate at which some countries are moving away from cash, cash is still a dominant instrument for many.
